Welcome to Mrs. Young's calculus class blog! Each week, I will start a new post. Students, you can write questions for me or chat with each other about how to solve a particular problem. As part of your class participation grade each week, every student must comment at least once to my post or another student's comment. I look forward to spending this year with you. Enjoy!

February 11th - 15th

We are half-way through the 3rd quarter! Remember that your video projects are due on Friday, 2/15. This week we are going to learn one of the most important things in integral calculus: how to solve an integral using u-substitution. This is a slightly different u-substitution than the one we learned with derivatives. We are basically going to be doing the chain rule in reverse. Watch the video to the right for a brief explanation. The first person to comment with the correct answer to the integral in the video will receive a couple points extra credit. For your post this week, I'd like you to reflect on your video project. How did you feel about the project, did you have fun, how did your group work together, etc.

  1. The answer to the video is du/dx=6x. We have yet to finish our project but I liked working with Daniel and Carly although our group seemed a little small with just three people. This was a very creative project which seemed harder than it actually was!

    1. Sorry Allie. That answer is not correct. I was asking for the value of the integral, not du/dx.

  2. Y=((3x^2-1)^101)/606 + C

I don’t have many experiences about taking video so it was good experience for me. My group was nice group. Especially, Grace’s acting was really good  Also, I can understand Isaac Newton and Gottfried Leibniz’ story by taking video.

  3. (((3x^2-1)^101)/606)+C
The project was difficult because it was hard to find songs that apply, but our group worked well together and it was fun.

  4. Bonnie and Rachel are both correct! Since I received both responses before I had posted anything, I will give both Bonnie and Rachel 2 points extra credit. Great job!

  6. I enjoyed the project. It's always fun to make videos and show them in front of the class. Our group worked well together although it was hard to find suitable songs for the topic.

  7. Atfer I got the video project, I was worry about it. I have no idea for finding songs. But we found some good songs. It was ok to take the video. I hope our vidoe is good.

  8. Initially I was anxious about the project because I had no idea how we were going to portray a story without dialogue and only words. But once we started filming, everything started coming together. Our ideas started flowing and we came up with a lot of good music to go with the video. We did have fun and my group worked together really well and we got done with our project a lot faster than I thought we would. I hope that the final product actually shows up on YouTube.

  9. Our group worked very well together, was kinda confused on what we were suppose to do, but then after I sat in my chicken coop, and after we got together, we were able to get something figured out and hopefully it works out.
