Welcome to Mrs. Young's calculus class blog! Each week, I will start a new post. Students, you can write questions for me or chat with each other about how to solve a particular problem. As part of your class participation grade each week, every student must comment at least once to my post or another student's comment. I look forward to spending this year with you. Enjoy!

Week 7
Welcome to week 7 of the 2nd quarter! I hope you all had a great and relaxing Thanksgiving break. This week we will be finishing chapter 4. We will be looking at more applications of derivatives. There is a video to the right of a related rate problem that might help when we get to section 4.6 on Thursday. This week, I'd like you to discuss one major thing that you have learned so far in chapter 4.

The major thing i learned in culculus class is a different way to solve questions. It's really interesting to do a lot of practice in English.
ReplyDeleteAnd the most important thing l've learned here is the experience to make my own schedule. I don't have to follow the routine made by my Chinese teachers! Now finally, I know I am not fighting for my school honor, but my own future. This make me feel really good.
Finally I figured out why my comment got error all the time :) anyway.. I learned how second derivative working other way rather than just find accleration. We can know where the graph concave down or up and where it reflects with second derivative. I think calculus is fun class but also confusing class. Haha
ReplyDeleteOne major thing that I have learned so far in chapter 4 is that the first and second derivative actually mean something. They are not just math things to do, but they can show you minimums and maximums of a function with the first derivative, as well as when the concavity changes with the second derivative. These things can help you analyze a graph in real world situations.
ReplyDeleteI have learned ways you can use calculus to find the maximum or minimum area given the perimeter of a space, or vice versa. This can be useful in real word situations. This chapter has shown that math concepts can be used in every day life.
ReplyDeleteThe one major thing that I have learned is first and second derivative tests. First derivative test can check maximum and minimum availability on points, and second derivative test shows concave up and down. I am glad that we can use calculus in real life, and I hope it is useful later in my future.
ReplyDeleteThe one major thing that I learned is how to apply first and second derivative in real world. Chapter 4 was really hard for me to understand and it is still very confusing to me. We also learned how to find the maximum and minimum value.
ReplyDeleteI learned that to find where a function has a minimum or a maximum you use the first derivative test and to find where the function is concave up or concave down you use the second derivative test.
ReplyDeleteI learned that you can find maximum and minimum values in the function without looking at the graph. It comes very handy because in case we are not allowed to use calculators, we can just do our little derivative tests to find those values.
ReplyDeleteI have learned that through the 1st and 2nd derivative tests you can find where the function has both maximums/minimums, and where it is either cancave up/down. I have also learned that you can apply these findings in many ways to real world situations.
ReplyDeleteI have learned the many uses of the derivative tests. It is amazing how often problems can be solved using just those tests.
